Shoppers are going to keep firm hands on their wallets this holiday season, so you might be wise to offer some low-priced stocking stuffers or other bargains in your retail store or on your online storefront. Consider these three kinds of suppliers for low-cost, wholesale goods: bulk liquidation websites, Chinese exporters, and shelf-pull or refurb sellers.
Liquidation.com and HotCloseout.com are liquidation sites that buy surplus inventory from retailers and resell in lots at significant discounts. You can buy a few items or a truckload. Recently spotted on HotCloseout.com: A lot of 4,000 Old Navy skirts, with a retail price of $15.00, going for $1.79 each.
China is the mother lode of cheap retail goods these days, so pay a visit to AliExpress, the wholesaler site run by Chinese Internet powerhouse Alibaba. Another site is EC21, a competitor with some useful verification and credit-check services for dealing with unknown overseas suppliers. Recently spotted on EC21: an alarm clock that launches a spinning propeller around the bedroom when it’s time to get up.
Shelf-pull and refurb sellers find overstock items or returned items, often with the original tags or boxes, and sell them as-is or make them like new again. Take a look at CloseoutsAvailable.com or GENCO Marketplace. Be aware that your right to resell the goods may come with major restrictions. For example, if you buy Kohl’s merchandise through GENCO, you’ll have to get Kohl’s permission to resell it in the U.S. and then not within 25 miles of a Kohl’s store.
